I was proud to take part in the Art Ankara International Fair with works that combined art and fashion. I presented an immersive fashion design installation to the audience.
💫 I Interpreted Selected Famous Works with Clothing Design as a Fashion Designer:
1- Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun’s “Marie Gabrielle de Gramont, Duchess of Caderousse” Portrait: I redesigned this portrait, which is an elegant reflection of the 18th century French aristocracy, with a modern touch using the elegant clothing and accessory details of the period. In this work, where Marie Gabrielle de Gramont is meticulously depicted as the Duchess of Caderousse, I tried to bring Vigée Le Brun’s style to life with clothing design details. I adapted the aristocratic elegance in the portrait and the fashion sense of the period to today’s fashion.
2- John Singer Sargent’s “Lady Agnew of Lochnaw” Portrait: I reflected Lady Agnew’s direct gaze and informal stance with the flowing fabric of her dress and her lilac sash. I redesigned this portrait, commissioned by the lawyer Andrew Noel Agnew in 1892, using Sargent’s style and Lady Agnew’s elegant appearance with modern fashion elements. In my clothes, I integrated these striking effects and Sargent’s influence on Edwardian society into today’s fashion. I also tried to make the chair in the portrait resemble it.
3- Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun – Woman in a Straw Hat: I reflected Elizabeth Louise’s lively expression saying “Hello!” from 200 years ago to today in the clothing design. I interpreted the fashion of the period with a modern simplicity with her dress, shawl, straw hat, hair, make-up and earrings. In my designs, I tried to bring the liveliness and sincerity of Elizabeth Louise’s facial expression and her story to the present day.
This special event provided the opportunity to offer a different experience to the audience by bringing art and fashion together. This year we will exhibit this exhibition in Brussels!
